    History

  • Aldourie Castle was first recorded as a mansion house in 1626, with later additions including a wing by the famous Scottish architect Sir Robert Lorimer. Aldourie is a perfect example of Scottish Baronial architecture. The Castle witnessed the passing of General Wade’s troops; it was a meeting place for the Lovat Scouts and also played an important part in the life of the famous artist GF Watts. In Victorian times the castle was used for holidays and house parties by aristocrats and industrialists. The unique position of the castle, beside Loch Ness and close to Inverness railway station, made it an easy destination to get to. This stunning castle is the perfect setting for a family holiday or celebration, and also works well for corporate stays
